Education for Children in Landfill Communities

Dreams in Landfills

Since 2014, One Ummah Foundation (OUF) has been working alongside Thaakat Foundation and Adra Al Kahir Welfare Society to uplift the community of Kachra Kundi, Karachi, a village where families are forced to live among the 100 tons of garbage dumped daily. Amidst these dire conditions, OUF has helped establish three DREAMS campuses, providing a beacon of hope and opportunity for over 1,300 students. Nearly half of these students are female, and an inspiring 70% of those enrolled in college programs are young women, marking a significant step toward gender equality and empowerment in a community where education was once a distant dream.

DREAMS campuses are not just schools. They are safe havens where children are nurtured, educated, and given the tools to break free from poverty. With 45 dedicated educators, these campuses provide a structured learning environment where students receive quality education, mentorship, and life skills that prepare them for a brighter future. More than just academics, these schools have instilled a culture of learning in the community, inspiring families to prioritize education despite their challenging circumstances. For many children in Kachra Kundi, these campuses represent their only chance at escaping child labor, early marriage, and generational poverty.

Through this initiative, One Ummah Foundation is transforming lives by turning education into a powerful tool for social change. By ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has access to a safe and nurturing learning environment, OUF is laying the foundation for long-term progress in Kachra Kundi. But this mission cannot succeed without the support of compassionate individuals like you. Your donation can help keep these schools running, provide essential learning materials, and empower more children with the education they deserve.
