The One Ummah Foundation is thrilled to announce the completion of our 159th water well in Bangladesh, bringing clean and safe water to over 20,000 people and counting. This achievement marks a significant milestone in our ongoing mission to improve the lives of vulnerable communities through access to essential resources.
In Bangladesh, only 14.94% of the population has access to a piped water supply; of this, a mere 2.9% belongs to the poorest quintile. Severe contamination issues compound the scarcity of clean water: 86% of the poorest households have E. coli-contaminated water, and 16.7% of the population consumes water tainted with arsenic. These alarming statistics highlight the urgent need for clean water sources in the country.
Bangladesh is also among the nations most severely impacted by climate change. Frequent floods, cyclones, and other natural disasters routinely damage water and sanitation infrastructure, making providing these critical services to the population even more challenging. In the face of such adversity, the importance of clean water cannot be overstated. It is not just a basic necessity; it is a catalyst for healthier lives, improved livelihoods, and a stepping stone out of poverty.
The One Ummah Foundation's water wells are a beacon of hope for many communities. By providing a reliable source of pure water, we are directly addressing the health issues caused by contaminated water, such as waterborne diseases and chronic health conditions. Additionally, access to clean water reduces the time and effort spent on fetching water, allowing children to attend school and adults to engage in productive work, thereby improving overall community welfare.
Our latest water well project is part of a broader initiative to tackle water scarcity and contamination in Bangladesh. Each well we build not only delivers clean water but also fosters community resilience against the impacts of climate change. As we celebrate this milestone, we remain committed to expanding our efforts and reaching even more people in need.
The journey towards clean water for all is far from over. With the continued support of our donors, volunteers, and partners, we are confident that we can build more wells and extend our impact to other regions facing similar challenges. Together, we can create a future where every person has access to clean water and the opportunities it brings for a healthier, more prosperous life.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this achievement. Your support is making a tangible difference in the lives of thousands, and together, we are paving the way for a brighter, water-secure future for Bangladesh.
